Preposterous, illegal, unethical and lunatic, one may call all the talks about waging a war against Iran or making air strikes against Iran’s nuclear installations, they are at the same time deadly, disastrous and catastrophic for the regional as well as world peace.
Little, however, the agents of death and destruction working in Israel and Washington seem to care. On what basis the US and Israel are beating drums of war against Iran except to satisfy the blood sucking vengeful psyche of some fanatic demagogue humbled by the mere logic of a winsome argument: Iran is asking for the right which is envisaged in the very treaty whose pioneer signatory is Iran itself along with the rest of the world who promises non-proliferation of nuclear arsenal.
The Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) allows Iran as well as any other power, unhindered access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. This is the right that cannot be denied to Iran. Four of the world’s most rich nations doubt Iran’s intentions for peaceful exploitation of nuclear technology; therefore, they want Iran to stop short of getting complete hold on nuclear technology, so that the doubting heads of the West remain at peace and the Islamic world is kept on the darker side of the equation. Five dimensions of Iran’s nuclear controversy need immediate attention of the world for peaceful resolution of the crisis.
Firstly, it is an Islamic country reaching out to the “forbidden fruit”
thanks indigenous efforts albeit huge investment at the cost of many a social and economic prog ress at home.
The whole nation is involved in the race towards nuclear technology and no amount of argument can dissuade the nation to abandon its nuclear ambition. Already the gap between the West and the lands of Islam regarding Technology, Education and Training is tremendous: whereas Iran’s giant step towards nuclear technology should be encouraged that also symbolizes an Islamic societal revival for learning and training which will finally help bridge fishers between the Western and Islamic cultures. However, that is only possible if certain amount of understanding and sincerity is shown on the part of Western leaders.
Secondly, the West has no legal basis for forestalling Iran’s stride towards nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. Event the compromised proposal forwarded by Russia to enrich uranium in Russia and not on Iranian soil has no legal basis, rather it is illegal as it contravenes Iran’s sovereign status and its right envisaged in the very treaty it i s pioneer signatory along with other powers of the world.
Further, however, abstract it may seem to certain crooked genius, Iran as a sovereign nation has the legal right to have unhindered access to full nuclear fuel cycle for peaceful purposes. Iran did not take the IAEA into confidence on certain nuclear developments in the past cannot be the basis for forfeiting Iran’s right to nuclear technology: such disproportionate penalty can only be conceived by minds whose judgement is severely damaged by their bias and partiality.
Thirdly, there is yet another country in the scenario. Israel, who already has acquired about 3000 nuclear warheads and whose nuclear programme is still shrouded in diabolical mystery and it has shown no intentions to take the world into confidence regarding the status of its nuclear programme in the near future; what legal or moral justification it has got to cry wolf over Iran’s nuclear programme? Whereas, Iran has always expressed peaceful intentions of its nuclear programme. Why the West should listen to Israel and ignore all the calls made from Tehran?
Fourthly the issue relates only to Israel in the region. Iran now being the only power in the region with 60 millions people behind their government offers very disconcerting prospect for Israel to establish its hegemony in the region. American plot to establish its hegemony in the region through Israel is also in dole drum. Unless Iran, after Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon, is subdued the US-Israel objectives in the region cannot be realized.
The world leaders need to look into the shoddy side of the story: Syrian front is on and the UN is already being exploited to exert pressure on Syria; Jordan is reeking under the burden of Palestinian refugees, who will be unleashed anytime against Hashemite regime when the time is right. Meanwhile, Iran should be grounded. Agenda was working all right until a spanner was thrown in the works by Russia and Chi na as demands of geo-politics are too cruel to ignore.
The fifth dimension of the nuclear fray is the darkest of all. The gathering clouds of war on Iran are sure to get thicker in the near future. Upon their failure to slap UN sanctions on Iran, the fanatic Christian –Zionist lobbies in the US and Israel will try to win support for surgical air strikes on Iran’s nuclear installations. A front has already been opened at home. On 15th January Republican and Democratic Senators on CBS’s ‘Face the Nation’ said the United States may ultimately have to undertake a military strike
to deter Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona said “That is the last option.
Everything else has to be exhausted. But to say under no circumstances would we exercise a military option, that would be crazy,” Democratic Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said there are sensitive elements of Iran’s nuclear programme, which, if attacked, ‘would dramatically delay its development’.
In Israel Binyamin Netanyahu, a former Prime Minister whose ambition it is to be Prime Minister again, said last month if he won the March election he would strike at Iran. This is in line with Mr Cheney’s instruction to the Pentagon last year to draw up a contingency plan for an attack on Tehran’s nuclear installations.
The US and Israel are inching towards this showdown to plunge the
world into a crisis of immeasurable magnitude. So far, the US has shown disinterest in the negotiations that are being carried out by the EU3 for obvious reasons. A lot rests with peaceful negotiations that should not be terminated with such haste as EU3 has shown by calling emergencymeeting of the IAEA on Feb 2. The EU3 must get rid of the blinders of the US-Israel making.
