According to scholars of Islam belong-ing to both Sunni and Shia denominations, Islam Promotes peace, solidarity and stability. This is unlike the current perception certain circles in the West generally may have of Islam and Muslims.
Aggression and Terrorism is Alien to Islam
Scholars of Islam agree in unison that aggression is alien to Islam. Any behaviour, deed and insinuation causing death, destruction or loss to innocent people is unlawful, condemnable hence punishable in Islam. The Quran, the most holy book of Islam which was revealed to Muhammad word-by-word 1400 years ago in Mecca and Medina, the two most holly places for Muslims across the globe, says, "There is no compulsion in religion..."
Islam Respects and Promotes Human Values
In The Spirit of Islam, Justice Amir Ali points out that Islam respects, enhances and promotes human values, its institutions and good conduct. Anything that is disruptive and unsettling to human society resulting in the mindless death, destruction and loss of innocent lives is un-Islamic. A believer is not allowed to harm himself/herself at all under any circumstances. Therefore, the question of suicide bombing does not arise at all. The Quran says, “Do not kill yourselves, for truly God is merciful. And if anyone does that in rancour and injustice, soon shall We cast him in the Fire.” (4:29-30)
According to the Quran, Muslims are only allowed to fight until it becomes absolutely necessary and even then, they are not allowed to fight in excess. The Quran makes its abundantly clear in Chapter 2 verse 190 where it says, “And fight in the way of God against those who fight you. But do not transgress the limits. Truly God does not love transgressors.” (2:190)
OIC Sets up Special Division on Human Rights
As stated in a News story published on OIC site, on 19 April 2010, The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) announced it is setting up a special division that will deal with human rights. Meeting with the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said ‘the organization was on the verge of creating a permanent and independent committee for human rights.’ The OIC consists of 57 countries spanning over four continents. This is the second-largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations. It was established in 1969 and provides a collective voice to the Muslim world.
Terrorists are Declared as Non-Muslims
There is no denying the fact that currently an acute minority exists among Muslims who are as much destructive to Islamic society as they are to other societies of the world. This extremist community is shunned by Muslims themselves as much as it is abhorred by any other peace loving people in the world. Allama Tahirul Qadri, Chief of Minhajul Quran and the most revered scholar of Islam in Pakistan and all other Islamic scholars across the board belonging to all denomination have declared these fanatics as non-Muslims.
