This is the worst of times for Pakistan. We are reliving our early history as Muslims with the only difference that now even religious minorities of the country are in the same fray bearing the brunt of obdurate obscurantism.
Taliban are on Pakistan’s throat to slit it to its sure death. They’ll slit open anyone not siding with them; cool headedly, with great precision, jubilation, shouting Allah-o-Akbar. This is not out of any personal vendetta or rancour. It is their culture and belief. They are from the devil by default.
They are deviant and perverts of their own kind and no counselling or corrective measures of any kind can bring common sense back to them. There is no safe place for the people who oppose them. They haven’t changed in 14 hundred years. Imam Ali failed to bring them round to his logical and coherent point of view. Now, Nawaz Shairef following in the footsteps of Imam Ali is trying yet again to win them over to his common sense. Nawaz is bound to fail as Ali did.
Ali had to fight and crush them down and so is the fate of Pakistan. They must be put to sword if people of Pakistan are to live peacefully. People of Pakistan will be safe only when these monsters are put behind bars or buried under the ground. This, however, is too much to expect from spineless leadership of Pakistan.
Generally it is assumed that Karijites are a splinter group of Imam Ali’s army in the battle of Siffin who did not agree with him on the question of arbitration with Muawya, Ameer of Syria. This assumption is far from the truth. They date back to the time of Holy Prophet (PBUH). Here it is appropriate to quote a Hadith about Hurqus Ibn Zuhar which is found both in Bukhari and Muslim.
“After the Battle of Hunain the Prophet PBUH, while distributing the booty, gave preference to a number of non-Muslims. His aim was to attract them to Islam. Hurqus rebuked the Prophet PBUH by saying, ‘Be just in your distribution O Messenger of Allah.’ The Prophet was incensed by this remark and responded by saying, ‘Then who can be called just if I am not just?’ To this the Prophet added, ‘There will come a time when a group of people will leave our ranks. They will recite the Quran with fervour and passion but its spirit will not go beyond their throats. They will leave our ranks in the manner of an arrow when it shoots from its bow.”
After the battle of Siffin Hurqus and Abdulllah Ibn wahb al-Rasibi became Kharijites’ leaders. Al-Rasibi was known for his excellent recitation of the Quran and because of intense and extended nature of his prostrations in prayers his knee caps appeared like two humps of a camel.
Imam Ali preferred talking to them but they never listened to him. Rather, they called him an apostate and fought with him many battles. They were against Imam Ali’s arbitration with Muawiya and used to say ‘there can be no arbitration except by Allah.’ They often quoted the Quranic verse “The prerogative of command rests with none but Allah. He declares the truth and he is the best of judges.” 6:57. Imam Ali declared , ‘there is a word of truth in what they say, but their ends are devious.’
Their first encounter was with Abdullah Ibne Khabbab Ali Aratt, one of the governors of Imam Ali. He was the first victim of Kharijites’ brutality. Abdullah and his pregnant wife were hacked to death. (Relate this to the brutal slaughtering of 23 soldiers of Pak army.)
So many battles ensued between Imam Ai and them and so many lives were lost. They were finally subdued but they never abandoned their freak ideology. They rather dispersed. Their ideology got new impetus in the teachings of Mohammed Abdul Wahab during the later part of 18th century. His political alliance with Sauds of Saudi Arabia and their subsequent ascendency to power in S.A. gave new momentum to Kharijites’ activities. The power of petro-dollar further augmented their inroads into Muslim society and in Pakistan they were able to capture so many existing mosques and Madaras (religious seminaries). They also constructed many new ones in Pakistan where they taught hate literature in the name of Islam. They have already soiled three generations of young impressionable minds of Pakistan. The product of such Madaras commit all kinds of violent acts in the name of Allah and Sunnah defaming Islam irreparably.
In the early days of Islam they declared Imam Ali as “Kafir” (apostate), about whom Holy Prophet PBUH had said, ‘Truth (haq) is with Ai and Ali is with Trut’, and that ‘The Quran is with Ali and Ali is with The Quran.’Kharijites charge with unbelief (Takfir) all those who disagree with them on any theological issues. They believe that they have the right to kill anyone who does not side with them.
Since beginning their belligerent stance on political issues have brought disgrace to Islam. More than to any country, principality, people or any other geographical identity, they are existential threat to Islam. Their agenda is devilish. Kharijites were never considered as a part of Muslim body because of their violent, aggressive and inhuman practices as well as their whimsical interpretations of the Quran and Islamic teachings.
Petro-dollar has given them yet another lease of life. This is high time Muslims at large understood their machinations and countered this challenge with ideological clarity and spiritual radiance.
Taliban and their mentors, even though they may appear supporting long, grey beards and donning big turbans, are on the side of devil. Unless they abandon Kharijite ideology and renounce violence as means of political gains, Pakistan will never see peace. Our political as well as military leadership and civil society must understand that they cannot appease them. There is no escape from crushing them in a just fight that is sanctioned by Islam as an obligation.
