About

Ambassadors of Islam is an archive and publication of writing on Islam, Pakistan and international affairs.

Purpose

The site has described its own purpose in these terms:

All Muslims by default are Ambassadors of Islam. They should behave as such so that Islam is spread through their personal flawless examples. Please join hands to spread Truth, Love and Peace in service to Humanity.

Quoted from the description the site has carried since its earlier incarnation.

Every page of the earlier site carried the verse that still frames the publication’s outlook: “And those who strive hard for Us, We will most certainly guide them in Our ways; and Allah is most surely with the doers of good.” (Qur’an 29:69)

The archive

The archive holds 252 articles together with 34 documents. Much of it is commentary written for the press, and a substantial part consists of scanned cuttings of older articles and news reports preserved from print.

Articles are arranged in four sections: Islam, writing on Islamic thought, history and practice; Pakistan, commentary on the country’s politics and society; International Affairs, on diplomacy and conflict; and Archive Scans, the preserved print cuttings. Documents are collected in the Library.

Where the writing first appeared

Where an article records it, the original place of publication is shown on the article itself. The titles that recur most often in the archive are Pakistan Observer (45), The News (12), Pakistan observer, Islamabad on Sept (2), Pakistan Observer on Feb (2).

Not every article states when or where it first appeared. Where that information is not established by the source, the article says so rather than showing a date that cannot be supported.

Contributors

Articles carry the bylines recorded in the original publication. The contributors identified in the archive are Syed Javed Hussain, Dr Javed Kazmi, Rasheed Ahmed Chughtai, Sohaib Nazeer Sultan and Syeda Maham Fatima. A number of items in the archive carry no byline; these are marked as such and are not attributed to anyone.

This archive

The material here has been preserved from the earlier Ambassadors of Islam website, which carried a copyright notice dated 2007. Article text has been migrated without rewriting: the arguments, quotations, references and conclusions are those of the original authors. Presentation has been modernised; substance has not been altered.

REQUIRES OWNER INPUT. The following are not established by the legacy material and have deliberately been left unwritten: the organisation behind the publication and its legal status; the year it was founded (a 2007 copyright notice is the earliest evidence, which is not the same thing); who edits it; contributor biographies; contact details; and whether there is any affiliation with the Islamic United Council, which appears in the archive only as one contributor’s stated affiliation. Nothing above has been invented.
